Search Dog Exercises – Leicestershire Search & Rescue is a team of specialist search and rescue services that find missing and vulnerable children and assist in rescues from remote rural areas. We are on call 24 hours a day, with a team of 50+ dog seekers, to answer across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

We have a number of search and rescue dogs in a team trained in Lowland Rescue:-

Many of our dogs are trained as weather sniffers, as we are often called upon in rural and uninhabited areas (where dogs are faster than humans in research). The dogs are trained to detect all human scents, and the training is built up in stages until the dogs are ready to perform the search effectively.

K9 Search And Rescue A Great Job For Your Dog.

Training all aspects of the team requires hard work and dedication. Dogs are accepted into the training program after an initial behavioral assessment. Then, the dog and its handler will need to pass a nationally recognized test to participate in the study. Typically, training takes place every week, throughout the year, and it will take six months before the dog handler/support reaches the qualifying standards and two years before the dog team is ready for national evaluation.

K9 dogs are their own pets, so they have normal costs such as food and so on; We provide K9 insurance, PPE for handlers and dogs; This costs £500 per year per K9.

Our foot teams are spread throughout the research, finding the best shoes on the ground. Teams are dispatched to almost every call, a team consisting of a team leader, a radio operator, a first assistant and qualified search technicians. Each new member must complete the Ground Searcher training (a six-month process) so that they can become qualified technicians and be deployed. All team members must continue to demonstrate their skills in searching the floor until they draw each time.

Ground search teams can be sent to both urban and rural areas, and will spend one to six hours searching forests, fields, parks, riverbanks and similar environments. Teams are sent at any time of the day or night, and in all weathers, and must be self-sufficient in equipment, food and water.

Other specialized units complement the foot teams, so that between them the units provide a quick, complete and efficient response to the calls.

If you feel you have the skills and qualities listed above, we’d love to hear from you!

For The Lost Or Missing In Md, These Search Dogs Really Are Humankind’s Best Friend

Unmanned aerial vehicles (sometimes called “drones”) are powerful tools that help us explore areas that may be inaccessible for health and safety or other reasons such as swamps, roads, overgrown crops or rivers.

This is an exciting development for us and we are fortunate to have purchased our new drone with a public address system, searchlight and FLIR (flame imager to select heat sources) capabilities. Many teams have already found missing persons using drones.

Our team consists of planners and searchers who manage the events we are invited to.

Planners use expert maps to help plan search locations using missing persons information and live police intel.
